This one is a no brainer.  Instead of single use plastic bags find reusable pouches and metal tins, etc. to pack your kids lunch.  This is also a learning opportunity for your young students.  You can talk to them about how many plastic bags are tossed out by students every year, what happens to those bags, how they are helping the environment and how they can suggest the same to their classmates.  Help them do the research on the internet.  They can turn it into a class project.  Raising environmentalists starts with simply actions.  Kids catch on a lot faster than grownups do.  There are dozens of places to locate containers and pouches including many of the larger retailers who are beginning to see the writing on the wall.
